Scorpions

Living in the Las Vegas valley has its fair share of “pests” and among them are scorpions!

Bark Scorpions are the most common species found in and around homes. Adults averaging 2.5 inches in size, a brownish-yellow or tan color and small tail. Don’t let their size fool you, as these arachnids pack a heavy punch as they are ranked the #1 venomous scorpion in North America. Most stings can cause severe pain along with localized numbing and tingling in adults for 3-4 days while a small percentage of stings can be fatal. Severity of the sting will depend on a person(s) individual allergic reaction.

Treatment options

Monthly Pest Control Service – Using pesticides specifically formulated for scorpions we can keep these pests under control. Our technicians are trained for various methods to keep scorpions “in check” and achieve the highest satisfaction rate. With any pest control service, the home owner can also take measures to keep scorpions outside of the home;

  • Making sure door sweeps and weather stripping are kept in working order

  • Keep debris as minimal as possible such as wood piles, leaves and low-lying bushes trimmed.

  • Keeping trees and bushes trimmed away from the exterior walls and roof of your home.

  Blacklight Treatment & Exclusion – Our technician will arrive just before dark and apply a specially formulated insecticide throughout the exterior of the home including perimeter walls. Using a “flush out” method we agitate the scorpions to get them up and moving! Once treatment is finished, we will come back when it is dark and use UV lights to search and physically remove any scorpions we find on property as scorpions' “glow” at night due to beta carboline found in their exoskeleton!

  Weep Screed Service – Using a Specially formulated pesticide and a foam applicator we specifically target the weep screed and foundation of your home. The weep screed is a metal flashing on the bottom of exterior walls to allow moisture to exit the home. Due to this opening it’s a great way for scorpions and other insects to get in as it can crack or separate from the house due to age and erosion! During this process, the foam expands upwards into the flashing and downwards into any foundation gaps which offers an additional layer of protection.
